The Department of Operations and Supply Chain Management at California State University San Marcos seeks a part‑time lecturer for Spring 2027 to teach OM 635:
Strategic Total Cost Management.
Course Description
This course is part of the Master of Science in Supply Chain Analytics program curriculum. OM 635 examines strategic approaches to managing and optimizing total costs across operations and supply chain networks. The course explores the major cost drivers associated with sourcing, procurement, inventory, transportation, logistics, production, and distribution, with an emphasis on understanding cost trade‑offs and their implications for overall supply chain performance.
Students apply analytical and managerial tools to evaluate total cost, assess alternative strategies, and support data‑driven operational and supply chain decisions. The course incorporates real‑world business examples, cases, and applied analyses to develop students' ability to identify cost‑reduction opportunities while balancing service, quality, risk, and other strategic objectives.
- A master’s degree or higher in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field.
- Per the California State University’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior teaching experience at a four‑year university and/or community college.
- Prior teaching experience in operations management, supply chain management, procurement, logistics, cost management, or business analytics.
- Experience using analytical tools, spreadsheets, business intelligence platforms, or other technologies to support cost and supply chain analysis.
- Experience applying total cost analysis, cost modeling, or cost‑to‑serve analysis in professional practice.
- Experience designing applied, practice‑oriented coursework, including case studies, projects, simulations, and data‑driven assignments.
- Experience working with industry partners or professionally oriented graduate programs.
- Demonstrated ability to connect strategic cost management concepts with current practices and challenges in operations and supply chain management.
- Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per full‑time month
The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:
- CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full‑time month
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
