Pediatrics/Obstetrics Pool Lecturer
The School of Nursing at California State University San Marcos accepts applications on an on‑going basis for our Pediatrics/OB pool of part‑time lecturers for Academic Year 2026/27. Clinical days, hours, and clinical sites vary within San Diego County and Riverside County.

- Prepare for and teach the clinical course under the general supervision of the course coordinator.
- Teach and role‑model nursing care, providing clear, engaging instruction to help students meet course learning outcomes and complete required clinical hours.
- Perform hands‑on demonstrations of nursing care in accordance with the clinical agency, accreditation standards, and regulatory guidelines (California BRN, CCNE, TJC).
- Create discussion topics and educational material for post‑conferences in coordination with the Course Coordinator and corresponding didactic course.
- Model professional nursing behavior and communication at all times.
- Complete weekly evaluation of students’ clinical practice, documenting progress and areas for improvement, and utilize SoN resources to ensure student success.
- Notify the Course Coordinator if a student is not progressing as needed.
- Assist students through office hours and help them access School of Nursing resources, including web‑based technology and open/practice laboratory sessions.
- Utilize computer and application‑based technologies, including the assigned Cougar Course, to complete instructional and assessment duties.
- Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with university and school requirements and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with the course coordinator, colleagues, laboratory staff, and clinical agency personnel to resolve issues or concerns; work collaboratively as part of the faculty team to meet student needs.
- Attend faculty meetings.
- Complete all SoN orientation requirements and respond to administrative requests and in‑service requirements in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with clinical agency personnel to arrange site orientations and clinical experiences, ensuring compliance with agency and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare clinical experiences at the assigned clinical site prior to student arrival to facilitate learning.
- Provision of appropriate learning experiences whenever possible, revising clinical assignments as needed based on student progression.
- Supervise students in completing course requirements, demonstrating, modeling, and assisting with the full range of patient care situations.
- Collaborate with the Simulation team during students’ simulation experience.
- Maintain professional practice knowledge base and skills to instruct learners in contemporary nursing practice.
- Complete annual performance evaluation as per university requirements.
- Other duties may include assisting the SoN with course or program revision/development, research assistance, and participation in committees as an active faculty member.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
- Brn faculty requirement:
Pediatric (Acute Care Peds) or OB (L&D & Post‑Partum) nursing work experience within the previous 5 years; NICU experience only not accepted. Direct patient care experience may be met by (A) one year continuous, full‑time or equivalent experience providing direct patient care as an RN in the designated area, or (B) one academic year of RN‑level clinical teaching experience in the designated area demonstrating clinical competency. - State licensure by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- Current immunizations and CPR licensure per School of Nursing requirements.
- Must meet California State University’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy; employment required within California.
- Doctorate in Nursing (DNP, PhD, or EdD with emphasis on Nursing Education).
- Experience teaching a pediatric or OB clinical course.
