Position Overview

The Assistant Professor, Nursing:
Medical‑Surgical (Two Positions) is primarily responsible for teaching a variety of courses in the discipline of Nursing. Responsibilities include lecture, clinical instruction, campus lab instruction, and distance education classes. Clinical instruction may be assigned to any time of day on any day of the week and may be changed at any time.

Teaching responsibilities will include day, evening, and/or weekend classes at the San Marcos campus and/or off‑campus locations, as part of contract responsibilities, and distance education classes. Full‑time faculty are expected to participate fully in departmental activities and college governance and hold regular office hours.

Salary
  • Starting salary range: $77,011.42 – $ annually.
  • Academic training and teaching experience will form the basis for salary computation as determined by placement on the regular salary schedule of the College. A maximum of step 8 at the appropriate salary grade will be awarded to new faculty. Primary Function

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Providing theory and clinical instruction for all levels of Medical‑Surgical nursing; supervising, counseling, and evaluating students; preparing course outlines, assignments, and examinations.
  • Delivering instruction in accordance with the course objectives and learning outcomes set for the course, including practical skills, methods, theories, and techniques.
  • Participating fully as a member on the Nursing Education Department committees, departmental activities, events, and College governance.
  • Holding regular office hours and participating in recruitment, community outreach, and retention of students.
  • Acting as a liaison between the College, the students, and the agencies utilized for clinical experience.
  • Developing and managing course curriculum, syllabus materials, and lesson plans.
  • Teaching assigned courses and supervising simulations in a manner consistent with the department’s standards and the content cited in the approved curriculum guides; following the instructional policies as outlined in both the College and the Nursing Education Department Faculty Manual.
  • Assisting in the coordination of instruction among part‑time faculty in the simulation lab.
  • Remaining current in the subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction through recent clinical experience and professional development.
  • Maintaining current California registered nursing licensure and CPR certification.
  • Complying with clinical requirements for immunizations and orientations determined appropriate by clinical agencies.
  • Developing and maintaining effective industry partnerships.
  • Facilitating part‑time faculty evaluations, high school articulation, and textbook requirements (with an emphasis on zero‑cost textbooks and open education resources).

This is a full‑time, 10 months per year, tenure‑track position.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet all of the following mandatory qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in nursing.
  • Current license or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
