- Strong mathematical, analytical, and written communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree or 4 years’ equivalent work experience
- Knowledge of financial operations, laws, terminology and financial functional areas
- Strong computer skills including the use of a variety of commercial software solutions, including databases, spreadsheets, word processing, e‑mail, and other specialized software
- Ability to design, analyze, and prepare financial reports
- Ability to prepare moderate to complex invoices including the associated journal entries
- Skill in researching accounting and or financial questions and assisting end users
- Experience in financial modules of an ERP software system
- Experience in administration of post‑award grants/contracts functions
- State of Texas experience in a major accounting or finance functional area
- State of Texas experience in a public institution of higher education
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or finance.
- Research administration in an institution of higher education
- Knowledge of federal regulations related to sponsored programs at local, state, and federal levels.
The Accountant II manages financial transactions, including recording, auditing, reconciling, and reporting, as well as forecasting expenditures and revenues across various accounts.
Job Duties:- Prepare complex billing adjustment entries and complex reconciliations for various sponsors. Responsible for activity and reconciliations related to Accounts Receivables; draw downs to Federal Sponsors.
- Perform complex professional accounting work involving the application of a comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices to the resolution of a wide variety of accounting problems.
- Perform complex financial review and other fiscal procedures, reviews account structures &/or reports, and automated accounting systems. Analyze existing policies and procedures and make recommendations for changes and/or solutions.
- Research and prepare information to aid sponsored projects accountant in preparing support documentation for financial reports as needed.
- Provide technical assistance to resolve complex accounting problems for the Office of Sponsored Projects staff and others.
- Develops complex, non‑standard financial reports and statements requiring interpretation and difficult analysis
- Assist internal, state and federal auditors as necessary
- Other duties as assigned.
