- Bachelor’s degree in visual design, communication, graphic design, advertising, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of design principles and applications for print and digital media.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite or comparable design software.
- Knowledge of advertising, branding, and campaign development.
- Strong skills in project and process management, including managing multiple concurrent design requests and deadlines.
- Proficiency with computers and common office and design technologies, including printers, photo and video equipment, and basic UX concepts.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with both professional staff and student employees.
- Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., communication, graphic design, advertising, or visual design).
- Experience working in a higher education or student affairs environment.
- Experience supervising student employees or managing small creative teams.
- Experience presenting workshops or trainings on design, media, or marketing topics.
- Familiarity with work request and project management systems, including tracking, prioritization, and reporting.

The Graphic Designer position produces high-quality visual design for print, digital, video, and web to support the Division of Student Success and its programs, services, and initiatives. The role ensures consistent application of university and divisional brand standards across all departments, serving as a key steward of the visual identity and advising departments on effective design practices. The position manages a broad range of projects from concept through delivery, balancing multiple deadlines while aligning all materials with the mission and vision of the Division of Student Success.
The Graphic Designer works under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, collaborates closely with campus partners, and will supervise and mentor student workers involved in design, media, and production tasks.
Design and Creative Production
- Conceptualize and design visual materials for print, digital, web, and video to support Division of Student Success initiatives.
- Develop concepts and layouts from initial idea through final deliverables, ensuring designs are clear, accessible, and audience-focused.
- Select format, typography, color, imagery, and overall layout, and edits content within designs for clarity and impact.
- Create and maintain templates and reusable assets to streamline production and reduce one-off requests.
Brand Stewardship and Visual Strategy
- Apply and uphold university and divisional brand standards across all materials to ensure a consistent visual identity.
- Align design projects with the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the Division of Student Success.
- Recommend appropriate channels and mediums (print, digital, web, social, video) to maximize effectiveness and reach.
- Advise staff on best practices for visual communication, including image use, readability, and inclusive design.
Collaboration and Consultation
- Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify project goals, audiences, timelines, and deliverables.
- Conduct project intake, communicate status and timelines, and incorporate feedback while maintaining design quality and brand alignment.
