Position DescriptionThe Department of Agricultural Sciences at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Applied Crop Science. This is a full-time, 9-month faculty appointment starting in fall 2026. The position requires the ability to teach various undergraduate and graduate level courses in Crop Science, conduct research leading to high-quality peer-reviewed publications, and provide service to students, the department, the profession, and the university.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program that complements existing crop science research in the Department of Agricultural Sciences at Texas State supporting Regenerative Agriculture, which combines knowledge gained from the Green Revolution with new knowledge integrating ecosystem dynamics and services, to ensure environmentally sustainable and economically viable food production systems for generations.
- Teach various undergraduate and graduate courses in Crop Science/ Horticulture.
- Mentor and advise students, including supervising M.S. student research and serving on thesis committees.
- Develop new courses and contribute to ongoing curriculum development within the department.
- Establish and maintain a strong, externally funded research program in production agriculture, particularly to address critical and emerging issues in the management of abiotic and biotic stress related to food crop production.
- Collaborate with other faculty, industry stakeholders, and external partners to advance research in the selected area of expertise.
- Disseminate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional conferences.
- Participate in service activities at the departmental, college, and university levels, including committee work and student recruitment.
- Engage in professional service activities within the broader Crop Science community.
- Chair a student-organization and/or other student-facing initiatives, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications- Ph.D. in Agronomy, Crop Physiology, Horticultural Science, Plant Breeding or a closely related field.
- Proven ability as an effective instructor of record at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Experience in mentor and advising students, including supervising M.S. student research and serving on thesis committees.
- Potential to develop a strong, externally funded research program.
- A record of or potential for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with different student populations.
- A track record of securing research funding.
- Previous research experience in some areas of abiotic and biotic stress of crop agriculture.
- Experience in curriculum development/new course development.
- Professional experience in crop science industry or relevant agricultural sectors (including outreach and international agriculture experience).
