Position: Assistant Professor of Instruction / Undergraduate Program Coordinator

Position Overview

Assistant Professor of Instruction / Undergraduate Program Coordinator in Geography and Environmental Studies at Texas State University. Rank:

Responsibilities
  • Teach four undergraduate courses per semester, including Our Dynamic Earth, Global Environmental Change, Research Methods, and other courses as needed.
  • Coordinate undergraduate program: chair the Undergraduate Committee, address curriculum issues, and provide degree‑program and academic‑policy guidance beyond standard advising.
  • Assist majors and minors in meeting program requirements.
  • Attend four Saturday undergraduate recruitment opportunities each year.
  • Participate in department service activities.
Teaching Load and Contract

The position has a standard workload of four courses per semester. Contracts are three or five years, with reappointment contingent on satisfactory performance review, continuity of funding, and departmental need.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Geography or a closely related field by appointment.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  • Ability to teach courses such as Our Dynamic Earth, Global Environmental Change, and Research Methods.
  • Experience with student‑facing problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching large‑enrollment courses (50+ students).
  • Experience handling student inquiries related to academic policies and program requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and explain institutional policies clearly.
  • Experience supporting students through administrative processes.
