Faculty of Practice or of Instruction - Concrete Industry Management

The Department of Engineering Technology at Texas State University has a one open rank Non‑tenure Line (NTL) vacancy in either a Faculty of Practice or Faculty of Instruction appointment for the expanding Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program. The CIM Program is a hands‑on discipline that combines principles of construction management, materials science, and business within an in‑depth, in‑demand degree program widely supported by the concrete industry.

Responsibilities

  • Teach relevant undergraduate courses for students preparing for a career in the concrete materials/construction industry or related fields.
  • Work with student organizations and/or mentor student competition teams.
  • Travel with students to industry conferences locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with concrete industry companies.
  • Participate in membership with industry associations that represent the concrete and construction industries.
  • Participate in service activities in support of the university, the department, and the profession.

Workload for NTL faculty includes teaching, at a minimum, 12 credits each semester per area of expertise and fulfilling service and advising obligations each semester.

Preferred start date: 12/15/2026 to begin teaching in the spring semester 2027; no later than 8/15/2027 to begin teaching in the fall semester 2027.

Required Qualifications
  • For all ranks:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Concrete Industry Management, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
    • Excellent oral and written English language skills.
  • For Faculty of Practice, all ranks:
    • At least five years of experience in the concrete or construction industry including plant management, operations management, project management and coordination, job site supervision/management, subcontracting, or other applicable concrete or construction industry related experience.
    • Demonstrates a current and contemporary competence in professional practice or management.
    • Engages in scholarship through professional presentations, publications, or similar contributions.
  • For the rank of Associate Professor of Practice:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the concrete or construction industry including plant management, operations management, project management and coordination, job site supervision/management, subcontracting, or other applicable concrete or construction industry related experience.
    • Demonstrates leadership in relevant professional organizations.
  • For the rank of Professor of Practice:
    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the concrete or construction industry including plant management, operations management, project management and coordination, job site supervision/management, subcontracting, or other applicable concrete or construction industry related experience.
    • Documented recognition by peers for professional contributions to the field (e.g., awards).
  • For Faculty of Instruction, all ranks:
    • Demonstrate current and contemporary competence in their teaching content area.
    • Exhibit the potential for continued professional growth in teaching and instructional activities.
  • For the rank of Associate Professor of Instruction:
    • Document more than five years of full‑time effective teaching and learning contributions, including advances in curriculum, pedagogy, course delivery, or similar innovation.
    • Exhibit the potential for increased leadership in teaching and instructional activities (e.g., course coordination, teaching innovation, professional outreach, scholarly engagement).
  • For the rank of Professor of Instruction:
    • Requirements listed for Associate Professor of Instruction.
    • Document more than 10 years of full‑time effective and sustained teaching and learning contributions, including advances in curriculum, pedagogy, course delivery, or similar innovation.
