Position DescriptionThe St. David’s School of Nursing at Texas State University is seeking a clinical nursing faculty (2 positions) at the Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor level for a nine-month appointment with potential for summer employment. The School of Nursing is one of eight academic programs within the College of Health Professions.
We are looking for a collaborative and student-centered educator who values shared governance, contributes positively to team culture, and actively engages in a collegial academic environment that supports faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
The role includes teaching primarily in the undergraduate nursing program across both clinical and didactic settings, providing clinical instruction in general and specialty areas, and facilitating engaging, inclusive, evidence‑based didactic learning experiences. The faculty member will also deliver simulation and skills lab instruction that supports student development, collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, evaluation, and continuous program improvement, and actively contribute to a supportive, respectful, and collaborative faculty culture through participation in meetings, committees, and shared governance.
Additionally, the position involves engaging in service to the school, college, university, and community, including fostering partnerships with clinical agencies.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The selected candidate will be given the appropriate rank and title based on college and university policy and established standards. This position will be located in San Marcos, Texas.
Required Qualifications For the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor- Masters degree in nursing or a related field with at least 3 graduate credit hours in nursing education.
- Minimum of five years of clinical experience as a registered nurse.
- Eligible for Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Texas.
- Minimum of two years of demonstrated teaching experience in a professional school of nursing, or equivalent.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and learning aligned with the program’s vision, mission and goals, demonstrated through a teaching presentation during the campus visit with faculty.
- Evidence of ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and clinical partners, contributing to a positive team environment.
- Minimum of five years of demonstrated teaching experience in a professional school of nursing, or equivalent.
- Current doctorate or enrollment in a doctoral program.
- Experience in curriculum design, program development, simulation, informatics, or communications technologies in nursing education.
- Record of scholarly/creative activities, including grantsmanship or funded projects.
- Experience with accreditation, program evaluation, and assessment processes.
- Certification in a nursing specialty or nursing education.
- Experience with online or hybrid teaching modalities.
- Experience with Standardized Patient programs.
- Demonstrated collegial leadership including mentoring peers, contributing to inclusive excellence, and supporting innovation through teamwork.
- Experience building and sustaining community and clinical partnerships.
- Evidence of fostering collaborative team development, conflict resolution, and peer support in academic or clinical settings.
