Position DescriptionThe Department of Philosophy invites applications for an Associate Professor of Instruction. The successful candidate will be expected to be an effective undergraduate and graduate teacher, contribute to department and college initiatives and leadership—particularly the Philosophy Dialogues—and be committed to teaching lower‑level philosophy courses as part of a core curriculum. Course assignments are based on expertise and departmental need and may include doctoral‑level Responsible Conduct of Research/Research Ethics.
Some teaching may be in evening courses or online, and summer teaching is sometimes available.
There are expectations of service related to teaching, course design, and curricular development at the departmental, college, university, and professional levels. The department supports cross‑disciplinary initiatives and regularly teaches courses in support of interdisciplinary programs across campus.
All positions are subject to availability of funds.
Required Qualifications- PhD in Philosophy
- Professional activity (presentation at a peer‑reviewed conference or publication in a peer‑reviewed journal)
- Teaching experience
- Evidence of institutional or professional service
- Experience with program administration
- Experience in leadership
- Experience in program building
- Research and teaching specializations in Philosophy of Human Flourishing, Ethics and Society, and Bioethics
- Experience with course or curricular design
- Expertise in General Education
- Teaching experience in one or more of:
Dental Ethics, Healthcare Ethics, Professional Ethics
