Full‑Time. Permanent. Exempt. Monthly salary $3,657.34.
Job SummaryResponsible for providing quality undergraduate advice to current and prospective students, and serving as a resource for them and their parents.
Responsibilities- Provide accurate and consistent information about academic planning and degree requirements, pre‑majors and admission requirements for majors.
- Provide institutional assistance for students in major exploration, parallel planning, major change, major foreclosure, and other transitions.
- Contribute to team goals in outreach efforts to at‑risk student populations.
- Clearly explain complex information related to institutional policies and procedures.
- Coordinate, plan, and prepare for advising sessions.
- Engage with undergraduate students in person, virtually, and over the phone.
- Help undergraduate students define and develop realistic educational and career goals.
- Maintain confidential student records through accurate and thorough documentation.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with academic units and university partners.
- Acknowledge and research student concerns, collaborate with appropriate stakeholders, and advocate for solutions with a commitment to fairness and integrity.
- Refer undergraduate students to appropriate resources for assistance.
- Participate in university efforts toward recruitment and retention such as Bobcat Day and New Student Orientation.
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement of advising services and integrate practices aimed at improving the student experience.
- Commit to ongoing professional development and attainment of knowledge regarding industry advancements and best practices in academic advising.
- Contribute to professional development initiatives for the Texas State Advising Network.
- Provide clerical assistance as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience working with college students or adolescents.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail demonstrated in application, resume, and cover letter.
- Demonstrated interest in working with a varied student population.
- Professional experience working with students in a college or university environment.
- Evidence of commitment to student success.
- Familiarity with trends and current issues in higher education.
- Advanced degree or hours toward an advanced degree.
