Assistant Faculty of Instruction – Introductory Biology and Clinical Teaching Faculty
Location:
San Marcos, College of Science and Engineering, Department of Biology.
The Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time, promotion-eligible but non-tenure assistant professor of instruction position. The successful candidate will teach face‑to‑face lecture courses for freshman biology majors, non‑majors biology, and related courses as needed; serve as Director of the B.S. Biology and Education (Life Science teaching certification) undergraduate program; teach an upper‑level life‑science pedagogy course; coordinate clinical teaching faculty and supervise field placements;
and collaborate with the College of Education to support shared students. The candidate will also participate in departmental and university meetings, committees, service activities, and other duties as assigned by the Chair.
- An earned doctorate in biology (or a closely related life‑science field).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Previous teaching experience in biology (or a closely related life‑science field).
- Demonstrated excellence as an instructor of record in large‑enrollment introductory biology (or a closely related life‑science field).
- Proficiency in the use of instructional technologies.
- Experience as an instructor or supervisor in an educator‑preparation program.
- Experience teaching at the secondary level and/or collaborating with secondary science teachers.
