Position Description : The St. David’s School of Nursing at Texas State University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor level, who will also serve as Director of our Simulation Laboratory, with a nine-month teaching appointment and required summer contract. The primary focus of this role is based in Round Rock, with approximately 10% travel to our San Marcos location to engage with and support our satellite simulation lab.
To support your work, university mileage reimbursement is available for pre-approved, simulation-specific operational activities between campuses. This key role in our School of Nursing will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational management, and coordination of student learning experiences within the clinical simulation laboratories. This role encompasses ensuring a high-quality, effective, and interprofessional learning environment that aligns with best practices in simulation education.
This position oversees all aspects of the simulation lab, including the Standardized Patient Program. This faculty member role includes a partial teaching appointment as needed within the nursing program and faculty responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and service. This position features a reduced teaching load of nursing courses per semester to allow dedicated focus on simulation administration. The Director also participates in the College of Health Professions Interprofessional Education (IPE) Committee, fostering collaborative learning opportunities across all health-related disciplines.
of the Simulation Lab Role:
- Develop, manage, and maintain the budget for all clinical simulation laboratory operational expenses.
- Ensure all simulation laboratories are adequately equipped, functional, and maintained for optimal student and faculty use.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluatea dedicated team of simulation technicians and support staff to ensure efficient operations and high-quality performance.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive inventory of simulation supplies and equipment, including a proactive maintenance schedule for all equipment.
- Develop and manage a master schedule for the utilization of simulation laboratories by each course and individual lab space.
- Maintain a detailed file of laboratory objectives for each nursing course, outlining the nature of the simulation experience, required staffing, and the designated laboratory.
- Seek and pursue external grant funding opportunities to support the growth and advancement of the simulation laboratories and IPE initiatives.
- Actively pursue and/or maintain certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).
- Provide leadership in the pursuit of endorsement from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL).
Faculty Support:
- Provide expert consultation and support to nursing faculty and students in the effective utilization of the various simulation laboratories and associated technologies.
- Collaborate with nursing faculty to develop, review, and maintain a comprehensive file of simulation scenarios, clinical protocols, and debriefing strategies for student practice and remediation.
Student Support:
- Develop and implement robust systems for evaluating and measuring student learning outcomes within simulation experiences to enhance the overall effectiveness of simulation-based education.
Representation and Interprofessional Education (IPE) Leadership:
- Participate in the College of Health Professions Interprofessional Education (IPE) Committee, providing leadership and direction for interprofessional learning initiatives.
