Position Description
The Department of English at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with specialty in American literature and culture before 1877. The successful applicant will maintain an active record of publication and teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialization. We are especially interested in scholars whose research and teaching interests fall into one (or more) of the following areas:
Indigenous, Latinx, or African American writing in English, conquest and colonialism studies, and/or slave narratives. The teaching assignment may include core English courses, such as introductory literature surveys. All positions are subject to availability of funds. Appointment begins Fall 2027.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in English or closely related field that meets accreditation requirements (18 graduate hours in English), with degree completed at time of appointment.
- Specialization in American literature and culture before 1877.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence.
- Background and/or experience commensurate with the position of assistant professor and sufficient to teach graduate courses in American literature and culture before 1877.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability in scholarly research on American literature and culture before 1877.
- Ability to teach and conduct research in one (or more) of the following areas:
Indigenous, Latinx, or African American writing in English, conquest and colonialism studies, and/or slave narratives. - Experience in mentoring and advising under-represented students.
