Distinctive AFWS Designs, Inc is looking for a highly qualified technician to assist with the assembly, installation, and evaluation of real-time flood warning equipment. We will provide experience for those interested in the field of flood warning and data dissemination. The required skills for this job are unique, and we intended to provide on-the-job training and assistance for any well qualified individual.

Office located near San Marcos, TX with various field work locations across the region.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble electrical components for the creation of flood warning system equipment.
  • Configure, test, and troubleshoot data loggers.
  • Perform installation, diagnostic checks, preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement of field system components.
  • Review sensor data records to assure accuracy, uniformity, and compliance with accepted standards.
  • Install, maintain, and service a variety of sensing, recording, and communication equipment and instrumentation.
  • Analyze consistency, completeness, and accuracy of collected data to ensure system reliability.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally, both internally and with customers, to ensure work objectives are met and issues resolved in a timely manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for data related to meteorology, environmental monitoring, flood warning, wildfire, and public safety.
  • Requires a “can do” attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done, often under strict deadlines and harsh conditions with extended travel.
  • Must be able to work alone and/or unsupervised for periods of time. Must be task oriented and able to adjust priorities as needed.
  • Perform other duties that may be added as the course and scope of the job directs.
Desirable Qualifications

Prefer completion of technical courses in electronics, hydrology, or information technology. Due to the unique field of expertise required for this position, we anticipate significant on the job training. A well qualified applicant will demonstrate their ability to quickly learn on the job. Responsibilities to potentially include:

  • Significant typing, computer work, wiring, soldering, and basic math functions.
  • Operation and proper use of common hand and machine tools.
  • Proven operation and proper use of digital multi-meters, oscilloscope, and other electrical diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of manual or automated environmental sensors and data loggers used in hydrology, water quality or meteorology.
  • Knowledge of DC circuits and basic circuitry analysis calculations.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks.
  • Ability to rapidly analyze and troubleshoot issues using sound methodologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems (in less than perfect environmental conditions) related to RF, electronics, poor hardware configurations, telemetry, and various meteorological sensors.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Construction skills: concrete foundation work, conduit experience, masonry, trenching and structures preferred.
  • Experience with RF Environments, cellular/satellite telemetry, or other data collection platforms is preferred.
  • Demonstrated complex problem-solving ability and sound judgement.
  • Must be able to manage time efficiently to meet both client and company needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and retention skills with the ability to accurately and concisely report daily and weekly progress.
  • Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Windows software products.
