Summary

Under close supervision, the Deputy enforces all civil and criminal laws of the State of Texas and Hays County while performing duties at the Hays County Government Center. The Deputy protects the citizens of Hays County and visitors to the Hays County Government Center. This position protects the life and property of the citizens and helps keep Hays County free from crime.

The work involves isolating and defining unknown conditions, resolving critical problems, and possibly making life or death decisions. This position must have a strong work ethic. The Deputy must follow directions, meet deadlines, have good attendance, be punctual, be reliable, have honesty, integrity, be free from moral turpitude, and have a proper attitude.

Individuals in this position serve at the pleasure of the current elected official.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

* Opens and closes the Hays County Government Center

* Controls access throughout and around the facility.

* Observes activities inside and on the grounds of the Hays County Government Center

* Conducts security screening of visitors using metal detectors, x-ray machines, physical scans, and applicable pat downs.

* Collects and secures all unauthorized firearms and other prohibited articles.

* Documents activities for succeeding shift briefings

* Receives criminal histories of inmates.

* Conducts head counts of inmates in holding cells complying with the Texas Jail Standards

* Maintains constant vigilance for unusual or questionable activity by inmates.

* Assists other officers as needed.

* Enters data into inmate classification files.

* Creates, updates, and maintains various electronic lists, documents, and forms.

* Makes lost and found reports providing detailed descriptions of people and/or property

* Resolves disputes involving inmates, citizens, and staff.

* Catalogues and processes evidence to make sure the chain of custody is followed, and items are stored in accordance with policies and procedures.

* Research cases and dispositions.

* Routinely inspects the building security equipment including doors, metal detectors, surveillance cameras, and fire suppression equipment.

* Performs a variety of duties to maintain order and security in the courtroom during trails and hearings to ensure the safety of judges, including warnings and arrests and guarding jurors from outside contact.

* Conducts daily inspections of courtrooms for security and cleanliness.

* Enforces courtroom rules of behavior, warning and/or removing persons disturbing court procedures.

* Responds to emergancy medical, fire and other situations seeking proper redemies for the situation to be conclused

* Provides first aid, CPR, and AED when necessary

* Gives directions and provides escort to customers in need

* Provides assistance to civil and law enforcement authorities, including testimony in court and other administrative hearings

* Provides security escorts to County employees who have money-handling authority.

* Interviews, investigates and documents all applicable incidents in accordance with policy

* Monitors radio traffic of all Security Officers

* Assures the services delivered by the Sheriff's Office meet quality and timeliness standards.

* Enforces the civil and criminal laws of Texas.
