Inspector V conducts on‑site inspections and investigations at Texas Long‑Term Care facilities, focusing on abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults and children with mental or intellectual/developmental disabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Perform licensure inspections, complaint investigations, and annual comprehensive surveys.
- Prepare detailed written reports describing deficiencies and regulatory findings.
- Testify at hearings or court proceedings regarding investigation outcomes.
- Conduct exit conferences with facility staff to discuss preliminary findings.
- Review and approve corrective action plans, recommend enforcement actions, and ensure proper administrative penalties.
- Train new hires through on‑the‑job training, mentoring, and shadowing.
- Participate in meetings to discuss major findings and support unit operations.
- Attend on‑call duties for emergencies or high‑priority situations.
- Maneuver travel up to 80% statewide, including overnight and weekend travel.
- Interpret local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to LTCR.
- Apply professional standards of care.
- Conduct inspections and investigations; identify proper courses of action.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Work independently and exercise professional judgment.
- Analyze data, integrate complex regulatory concepts, and execute sound decisions.
- Multi‑task and manage competing priorities.
- Operate computers, tablets, laptops, and related office equipment.
- Interview individuals in various settings, including private residences and state‑operated facilities.
- Operate safely in potentially high‑risk environments.
- Oversee the work of others.
- Four‑year degree from an accredited institution preferred.
- Valid Texas Class C (or higher) driver’s license.
- Experience conducting investigations preferred.
- Experience working with individuals who have mental illness, intellectual/developmental, or physical disabilities preferred.
- Experience interacting with the public in person or by phone.
- Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check and other due diligence checks.
- Ability to disclose potential conflicts of interest or other relevant restrictions.
