Responsibilities
San Marcos Treatment Center, a 212‑bed, seclusion‑free psychiatric residential treatment facility located between Austin and San Antonio in Central Texas. The center spans 65 acres with abundant trees and wildlife. We have 13 unique living units separated by gender, age and developmental levels, with two swimming pools, two gymnasiums, a sports court, playing fields, a ropes course, a canteen, a social area and a healing trail.
We provide 24‑hour psychiatric care to girls and boys ages 6 to 17 with customized therapeutic approaches and intensive behavioral programs that teach young patients to moderate their behavior, manage emotions and improve social functioning.
The main responsibilities for the job are as follows:
- Responsible for dishwashing and serving food in the cafeteria to patients and employees.
- Assure patient diets are met and all patients receive the appropriate meal.
- Assist cooks following dietary recipes and menus to aid in the preparation and portioning of meals.
- Monitor the quality and temperature of all food in the serving line during each meal.
- Also responsible for maintaining a sanitary environment, ensuring all appropriate procedures are followed at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Licensure/Certification: Serv Safe and Food Handlers Certification required.
Experience: 1 year of related experience preferred.
Skills: Food, restaurant, or institutional service experience is required, and hospital dietary department experience is preferred. The ability to read and write in English.
Physical Requirements: Frequent (≥50%) standing and walking, lifting/carrying, bending/stooping, and using arm muscles for extended periods. Intermittent (25–49%) sitting, twisting, pushing/pulling, climbing (ascending/descending stairs or ladders), and using leg muscles for extended periods. Frequent carrying of weights 2–20 pounds, infrequent carrying of weights >20 pounds.
