Community Health, Non-Profit / Outreach, Public Health, Youth Development
Community Action, Inc. of Central Texas (CAI) has served rural Hays, Caldwell, and surrounding counties since 1965, offering programs in workforce development and adult education, rental and utility assistance, senior citizen center, youth leadership development, Head Start and Early Head Start, Parents as Teachers home visiting, and health services including a reproductive health clinic, breast and cervical cancer navigation services, Medicaid enrollment and rural HIV/AIDS case management.
Despite this reach, many eligible residents never connect with the services meant for them, and CAI's program areas currently track outreach and referrals in separate, disconnected ways, making it hard to see where gaps in access exist or measure whether outreach efforts are working. The Community Impact VISTA member will build the data infrastructure CAI needs to close that gap.
This member will design tools to track outreach and referral activity across program areas, analyze that data to identify where rural and deep-poverty communities are being missed, and create shared systems that let CAI's teams measure and report on their community impact long after the VISTA term ends. This is capacity-building work: the member will build the systems, tools, and staff know-how that make CAI's outreach measurably more effective for years to come.
This position partners closely with a second VISTA member focused on outreach and communications, pairing data insight with public-facing strategy to strengthen how CAI reaches the communities it serves.
As a Community Impact VISTA member, you'll build the systems CAI uses to understand who it's reaching and who it's missing. You'll design simple tools to track outreach and referrals across program areas, then dig into that data to spot where rural and low-income communities aren't connecting with available services. You'll run needs assessments and surveys to ground outreach decisions in real community input, and turn your findings into clear reports and visuals that staff, leadership, and funders can act on.
You'll also build data and evaluation systems your teammates can keep using on their own once your service year ends, and train staff to run them. Throughout your term, you'll work side by side with CAI's Community Outreach VISTA member, making sure the patterns you find shape the messaging and strategy going out to the community, and you'll represent CAI at coalition meetings and community events.
