Fusion Medical Staffing‑Nursing seeks a travel nurse RN Operative Room for a 13‑week assignment in San Marcos, Texas. The role requires 40 hours per week on 8‑hour day shifts and a valid RN license with current BLS certification.

Summary

The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative process, ensuring safety and comfort during surgical procedures. This role involves preparing the operating room, managing surgical equipment, and collaborating with the surgical team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care.

Essential Work Functions
  • Prepare the operating room by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are ready and functional for each procedure.
  • Assist in positioning and preparing patients for surgery, addressing concerns and ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Maintain a sterile field throughout procedures and adhere to infection control protocols.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, providing instruments, supplies, and support promptly to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Monitor the patient's condition during surgery, documenting significant changes and notifying the surgeon.
  • Handle surgical instruments and supplies, ensuring proper use, sterilization, and disposal according to protocols.
  • Manage specimen collection, labeling, and transport to ensure accurate diagnostic results.
  • Document all aspects of patient care in the perioperative setting accurately and thoroughly.
  • Participate in patient handoff communication during pre‑ and post‑operative phases for continuity of care.
  • Assist in cleaning and restocking the operating room between cases, adhering to infection control and turnover protocols.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Follow hospital safety rules and procedures, including proper use of PPE and infection prevention measures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in following written and verbal instructions and PC skills.
  • Physical Abilities: Must remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, and bend.
