Oncology RN

Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for an Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and Infusion Departments at our San Marcos, New Braunfels, and Kyle locations. This is a full-time position Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with no weekends, call, or major holidays. The position can be a level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.

Under general supervision, the RN provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Must recognize physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of care and participate in quality initiatives. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

• Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
• Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history, assessing patient/family needs and providing teaching and other instructional material, and providing psychosocial support to patients and families.
• Facilitate clinical operations and patient care: triage patient phone calls as needed and document information in the patient’s chart; facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care; assist patients in locating available community resources.
• Interprofessional collaboration: act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.

Level 1:

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program, BSN preferred.
• Hold a current RN state license and registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
• Hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• 0‑3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology.

Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements):

• 3‑5 years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology.

Level Sr (in addition to Levels 1 and 2):

• Five years of nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology.

The work environment is representative of an oncology/hematology clinic setting, with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medical preparations. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients; manual and finger dexterity; eye‑hand coordination; standing and walking for extensive periods; occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 40 lb; requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
