Public Safety Sergeant
Responsible for supervising public safety officers while enforcing the parking regulations of the university, assisting motorists, and securing the safety of students, faculty, and staff. This is a night shift position.
Job duties include responding to calls for service, operating a patrol vehicle, assisting motorists, attending shift briefings, supervising public safety officers, including report and citation review and approval, security systems management, fleet management, and personnel matters. Support department outreach and engagement efforts, oversee the emergency call box system through regular audits, manage shift schedules and assign appropriate shifts, collaborate with campus partners requiring security services, conduct regular assessments of campus security camera systems, and understand policies and procedures;
provide excellent customer service; manage public safety officer training program.
Required qualifications:
applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position. High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in supervising public safety officers, to include report and citation review and approval, security systems management, fleet management, and personnel matters. Ability to understand policies and procedures. Manage public safety officer training program. Must be able to complete CPR, First Aid, AED, Naloxone, and CJIS certification is required upon one (1) year of employment.
Must turn in a personal history statement and be able to pass a full background.
Preferred qualifications:
prior public safety officer experience in the state of Texas or out of state equivalent. Some college education preferred, ideally in the criminology or criminal justice fields. Demonstrated outstanding organizational skills; attention to detail; ability to work under minimal supervision; evidence of initiative and proactive approach to solving problems. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new procedures and to problem-solve independently; excellent written and oral communication skills.
Able to read, write and speak English. Good physical condition, able to walk and/or stand for long periods. Acceptable driving record and eligible to operate a university-owned vehicle in accordance with university policy. Criminal record free of felony convictions, good credit, stable employment history.
This position requires driving University vehicles. This position requires a pre-employment Physical Skills Assessment. This position requires pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing. Must complete a personal history statement. Must complete a fingerprint background.
