Required Qualifications:

Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff, visitors, emergency responders, and the public.
• Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn and utilize multiple software applications, databases, and communication systems simultaneously.
• Ability to make sound decisions, prioritize competing demands, and remain calm and composed during stressful and emergency situations.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Current Texas Commission on Law Enforcement ( TCOLE ) Telecommunicator License or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of employment in accordance with state requirements.

• Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Previous experience in public safety communications, emergency dispatch, law enforcement, fire, EMS , military, call center operations, or a high-volume customer service environment.
• Working knowledge of public safety communications principles, emergency response procedures, and computer-aided dispatch ( CAD ) systems.
• Knowledge of Texas Crime Information Center ( TCIC ), National Crime Information Center ( NCIC ), Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System ( TLETS ), and National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System ( NLETS ) policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of emergency medical dispatch ( EMD ) principles and protocols.
• Familiarity with security alarm monitoring, video surveillance systems, or other public safety technology.
• Knowledge of Texas State University policies and procedures, University Police Department General Orders, and Communications Standard Operating Procedures.
• Current Texas Commission on Law Enforcement ( TCOLE ) Telecommunicator License.
• Bilingual communication skills are desirable.

The Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and prioritizing incoming calls for assistance from the university and managing and directing responding units.

• Accurately track the status and location of emergency personnel using sophisticated computer software.
• Monitor and respond to alarms, including security access, fire alarm systems, security cameras, closed-circuit television, teletype, and TDD systems.
• Manage, monitor, and enter data specific to Open Fox.
• Handle calls for police or other university services, including those from emergency phones and 911 systems.
• Gather information swiftly and precisely.
• Manage radio communications and other information directed to police or university staff.
• Perform other related duties as required.
