Required Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience in victim advocacy
  • Experience in human services, particularly with victims of interpersonal violence
  • Ability to manage multiple cases by assessing urgency, safety concerns, and survivor needs in high‑stress situations.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating programs, services, or referrals aligned with survivor-centered care and organizational goals.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and data security practices to protect sensitive client information.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential case records using databases or case management systems.
  • Experience in assessing the severity and urgency of assigned cases with the ability to aptly provide support, identify specific needs, and prioritize referrals and/or resources
  • Ability to explain legal, medical, and procedural information in clear, trauma‑informed language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with survivors through compassionate, non‑judgmental, and consistent support.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, social work, or a related field
  • Capacity to respond calmly and empathetically during crises, including after‑hours or emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with law enforcement, legal, medical, and campus‑based support services.
  • Familiarity with Title IX regulations, the Clery Act, and trauma‑informed care principles.
  • Certification as a victim advocate through the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) or a comparable credentialing body.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in social work, counseling, criminal justice, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Job Description

Responsible for providing specialized support services for students, faculty, and staff who are the victims of crime.

Job Duties
  • Provide trauma‑informed advocacy and support to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and other violent crimes.
  • Assist survivors through the judicial process, including obtaining protective orders and offering support throughout criminal proceedings.
  • Support individuals reporting to University Police Department (UPD) and those reporting exclusively through the Title IX Office of Compliance.
  • Serve as a liaison between survivors and campus resources, including the Dean of Students Office and Student Health Center.
  • Collaborate with Hays County Victim Services and other community partners to strengthen referral networks.
  • Educate the campus community on survivor rights, available resources, and reporting options.
  • Assist survivors in navigating law enforcement, medical, and legal systems when they choose to pursue these options.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and university policies.
  • Provide advocacy support to students living on campus, serving a residential population of over 9,000 students.
  • Collaborate with the Texas State University School of Social Work as needed.
