Job Responsibilities:
- Improve accounting system workflows to support an efficient monthly close, including the use of automated bank activity and routine entries.
- Review and approve reconciliations for payables, expenses, and receivables to ensure accurate subledger activity.
- Complete detailed reconciliations of payroll and donor records to the general ledger and confirm proper recording of activity.
- Manage fixed asset records by tracking additions, recording depreciation, and maintaining related reports.
- Maintain accurate balance sheet accounts through regular analysis, accrual tracking, and bank and investment reconciliations.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting practices, including fund activity, program reporting, and net asset categories.
- Solid knowledge of accounting standards and familiarity with recent guidance related to leases and revenue recognition.
- Experience working with cloud based accounting systems and automated reporting tools.
- Ability to analyze complex financial information and provide clear explanations to finance leadership.
- Able to work independently, make sound decisions, and communicate clearly with team members.
- At least 5+ years of accounting experience with responsibility for reconciliations and balance sheet management.
- A Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, or a similar field.
- Experience working with accounting systems and automation tools that improve efficiency.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify issues and recommend improvements.
- Comfortable working remotely with the ability to complete an in person onboarding plan.
