Tax Preparer

We are looking for a Tax Preparer to support a busy tax team in San Mateo, California. This long-term contract position will focus on preparing a high volume of primarily individual tax returns, with some work involving small business filings, helping senior tax staff stay focused on more complex matters. The role offers a regular schedule of 40 hours per week, with consideration for part-time availability, and requires someone who can work independently while adapting to different management styles.

The client is open to both remote or local candidates.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare primarily individual income tax returns, including 1040 filings, while also assisting with straightforward corporate returns for smaller businesses.
• Review client tax documents for completeness and accuracy to ensure returns are prepared efficiently and in compliance with applicable standards.
• Help reduce a backlog of routine tax filings so senior accounting staff can concentrate on more advanced tax engagements.
• Use tax software, including CCH Pro System or other current tax preparation platforms, to complete and organize return information.
• Communicate effectively with team members and leadership to clarify tax data, resolve open items, and keep work moving on schedule.
• Manage assigned returns with minimal supervision while adjusting to the working preferences of multiple tax staff members.
• Maintain organized records and supporting documentation throughout the preparation process to support quality review and timely filing.
• Support evolving operational needs, including adjustments related to future office or system changes, as directed by leadership.
