About the School
St. Matthew Catholic School serves a diverse community of 600 students from Kindergarten – 8th grade. Teachers and staff collaborate to educate students to a high standard in academics and character, guided by the principles of PEARLS (People with strong character, Effective communicators, Active Christians, Responsible citizens, and Lifelong learners).
Position OverviewDirector of Health, Wellness and Counseling Services (Full‑time, school year).
Required Qualifications- Willingness to embrace the Catholic values and traditions of St. Matthew Catholic School
- Experience and enthusiasm for working with students from all grade levels (K‑8)
- Enthusiasm for teamwork, collaboration, and collective efficacy
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to successfully maintain a double class caseload
- Ability to develop a strong rapport with students, parents, faculty and staff
- MA degree in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work; or Counseling with credential of School Social Work Specialist; or Marriage and Family Therapy; or related field
- Practicing Catholic
- Experience working in a Catholic school or with school‑aged children (3‑5 + years)
- Advanced degree in psychology, counseling or closely related field / eligible for licensure
- Classroom teaching experience
- Expertise with technology including various devices and proficient in Google or Microsoft applications
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Public speaking
- Community outreach
- Leadership skills, and crisis management experience
- Support St. Matthew Catholic School’s mission, philosophy, and SLE’s
- Provide confidential individual and group counseling sessions to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that interfere with school performance, including crisis intervention and consultation as needed
- Conduct interviews with students, family members, and school personnel to gather information required to assess student social, emotional and behavioral adjustment to school and the community
- Maintain regular contact with students’ parents/guardians to inform of student’s progress, areas of difficulties and any changes or situations in home life that may affect school performance
- Collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians, district personnel, and service providers to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems, while maintaining effective public relations and a positive community environment and maintaining a list of referral services
- Develop, implement and promote parent educational programs and/or speaker series events
- Attend all mandatory trainings provided by SMC and ADSF as it pertains to school counseling
- Participate in classroom observations and provide classroom support and SEL curriculum guidance
- Maintain appropriate records and progress notes in a secured area
- Attend parent/teacher meetings as requested
- Work collaboratively with community partners to bring additional resources to the school community
- Provide and conduct staff trainings on pertinent topics
- Collaborate with Dean of Student Life on student issues and/or concerns
- Perform all other duties outlined in our Faculty Handbook or assigned by the Dean(s)
Full‑time position. Salary is based on experience and diocese pay scale (Advanced Education & Certifications not included).
