About the roleAs an Autonomy Engineer, you will develop and deploy autonomous capabilities for Skydio drones, tackling use cases such as inspection & mapping, first‑responder operations, security, and situational awareness.
Responsibilities- Build end‑to‑end autonomous features in collaboration with vision, planning, controls, deep learning, infrastructure, embedded, cloud, mobile, design, product, and flight test teams.
- Develop core robotics algorithms to expand the autonomous envelope in challenging environments (night, urban canyons, GNSS interference, sea, precipitation).
- Triage customer issues, identify trends, and enhance system resilience.
- Research and invest in simulated and real‑world test infrastructure.
- Maintain high code quality and proactively address technical debt across the software stack.
- Design and evaluate new motion‑planning strategies to improve customer experience.
- 1+ year of production‑level coding for autonomous robots, preferably flying robots.
- Proficiency in C++ and Python.
- Experience implementing state‑of‑the‑art algorithms in robotics‑adjacent areas (computer vision, state estimation, motion planning, controls, sensor integration, UAS software & hardware).
- Strong software‑engineering fundamentals and a commitment to clean, maintainable code.
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for using robotics to make the world safer and more productive.
Competitive base salary ranging from $147,000 to $210,000, equity in the form of stock options, and comprehensive benefits including paid vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and a 401(k) savings plan. Compensation varies based on skill level, proficiencies, and experience. Relocation assistance may be provided for eligible roles.
