Purpose

The Electrical Estimator is office based and has a proven record of success and experience in commercial, government, healthcare, life science, and/or industrial construction. The role prepares cost estimates for construction projects or services and provides peer review for other Estimators. The Electrical Estimator provides complete and accurate estimates for each assignment according to the company’s estimating procedures. The Electrical Estimator fills in scope gaps at early stages of design and procures Electrical and Low Voltage Systems trade packages by writing detailed instructions to bidders and assessing trade partner proposals, while juggling multiple projects at various stages of design.

The Estimator performs detailed open‑book estimates and change‑order reviews to ensure trade partners adhere to bid day parameters and are pricing according to industry standards. The Electrical Estimator also mentors other Estimators and Cost Engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Preconstruction
  • Attend pre‑bid, post‑bid, business development, trainings, safety gatherings, and estimating department meetings.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Demonstrate ability to make the right decisions and help guide others.
  • Compute cost factors and prepare estimates, organize, and schedule work.
  • Select potential subcontractors and determine best overall value for the project.
  • Develop cost plans and estimates from concept through detailed design.
  • Provide value‑engineering opportunities that can benefit the project.
  • Apply practical knowledge of construction means and methods to enhance the overall design.
  • Continue education and training in work‑related skills.
  • Attend online and in‑person trainings, organize symposiums, and participate in scheduled learning activities.
  • Review and update historical cost data.
  • Maintain departmental templates and update as necessary.
  • Use historical data to benchmark similar current projects.
  • Translate written technical documents to others with supporting costs.
  • Review proposed design changes.
  • Develop and understand the cost implications of these changes.
  • Identify unique cost drivers.
  • Any other task or duty as assigned or required.

  • Provide exceptional customer service and employer representation.
  • Maintain relationships and work collaboratively with others.
  • Communicate well with employees, clients, and trade partners, and apply the company mission and values.
Leadership

Skills and Specifications
  • Excellent organizational skills, tremendous ability to multi‑task, ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Lead and coordinate with other team members and be a team player.
  • Understand written technical documents.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Accubid, Live Count, Bluebeam, and other related software.
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Skillful with methods of construction procurement such as Design/Build, Design/Assist, and Plan/Spec.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem‑solving, and both oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to less‑technical audiences.
Knowledge, Education, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or other 4‑year degree in engineering or construction‑related field is preferred, or equivalent education and construction estimating experience.
  • Preferred minimum of 5‑10 years of experience in commercial construction electrical estimating.
  • Experience in estimating both electrical and low‑voltage systems is a must. Knowledge and experience gained from several industry sectors is preferred, including Fire Alarm, 2‑way Communications, ERRCS, Cellular DAS, Telecom, Security, and Audio/Visual.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction practices, methods, trends, and crew data.
