Electrical Integration Engineer

Location:

Foster City, California

Duration: 6 month contract – (extension potential)

Pay:
Negotiable depending on DIRECT related experience Up to $68 – $73/hr

Type: W2 contract ONLY – (C2C OR THIRD-PARTY arrangements will NOT be considered)

Work Authorization:

Job Summary:

As a hardware debugging specialist on our team, you will be the go-to expert for troubleshooting, validating, and resolving complex hardware issues across compute, controls, networking, and sensor systems. You will be responsible for triaging active hardware issues within our deployed fleet, driving root-cause investigations, and building analysis methods to reproduce these field issues in the lab. Working closely with fleet support engineers, you will track ongoing issues and manage their containments, while proposing long-term design solutions to our hardware design teams.

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience as a hardware engineer, test engineer, or systems validation engineer with a strong focus on electrical/physical layer debugging across multiple subsystems.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting at least two of the following domains: compute/processing hardware (thermal, power, storage), vehicle controls and power systems (CAN bus, battery/voltage management), networking (automotive Ethernet, switch/link diagnostics), or sensor hardware (camera, lidar, radar, or thermal imaging systems).
  • Working knowledge of common diagnostic tools (oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, multimeters, network traffic generators) to evaluate hardware performance and formulate actionable solutions.
  • Ability to systematically triage field issues, distinguish hardware faults from software/configuration issues, and drive investigations to root cause with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Comfortable working across ambiguous, multi-subsystem problems where the root cause is not initially known.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and network synchronization concepts, GMSL2 technologies, and HPC technologies.
  • Experience with scripting languages (such as Python or Bash) to automate testing, parse fleet logs, and control lab equipment.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, with a track record of effectively partnering with fleet support operations and hardware design teams.
  • Exposure to embedded Linux systems, CAN/automotive networking, or storage/NVMe subsystems.

Work Authorization:
Must be currently located and authorized to work in the United States without CURRENT sponsorship requirements – No C2C or third-party candidates.
