Property Controller
Our client, a real estate investment and property management company, is seeking a Property Controller to oversee property-level accounting and lead a high-performing team.
LocationThis role is hybrid, with on-site expectations three days per week in the Bay Area.
Job DescriptionThis opportunity offers visibility with senior leadership, involvement in joint-venture partnerships, and the ability to influence process improvements across a growing portfolio.
Responsibilities- Lead and oversee the full property accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for owners, lenders, and joint-venture partners.
- Direct the month-end close process, including review of financial statements, variance analysis, and ad hoc reporting.
- Manage and develop Accounting Managers, Supervisors, and their teams through coaching, goal setting, and performance management.
- Partner cross-functionally with Finance, FP&A, Operations, Asset Management, Investor Relations, Legal, and external partners on acquisitions, dispositions, refinances, and JV onboarding.
- Serve as the primary liaison for internal and external audits, strengthening internal controls and driving efficiencies through process improvements.
- Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- Experience in real estate, property accounting, or joint-venture accounting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across internal and external partners.
