Community Worker II

We are seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals for the Community Worker II position in the San Mateo County Human Services Agency Employment Services branch. Under general supervision, Community Workers provide a wide variety of employment-related services for the general public, including individual and group instruction, case management, resource referrals, and outreach.

• Assist in career development skills and job search/placement activities.
• Assist job seekers in the Resource Centers using computers, copiers, fax and job postings as needed.
• Recruit employers for on-site hiring events.
• Assist other personnel by establishing and maintaining contact with program participants.
• Perform data collection.
• Provide assistance and support services to both customers and staff.
• Schedule and record‑keeping.
• Develop immediate solutions to emergency problems and expedite delivery of needed services.
• Attend staff and in‑service meetings.
• Refer clients to other departments and/or agencies for appropriate support.
• Conduct outreach and educational activities for clients and community partners.
• Participate in field activities in the community as well as San Mateo County HSA sites.
• Complete evaluations of clients attending workshops or other employment related activities.

• Possess at least 2 years of experience in providing community services related to employment, emergency needs, and remedial education.
• Knowledge of community resources and other agencies to help educate program participants on available services.
• Ability to establish partnerships with community partners and/or other agencies.
• Collaborate with community partners and other agencies by identifying innovative ways to outreach clients.
• Ability to network with community employers for employer spotlight events and promotion of employment‑related resources.
• Stay up to date on current labor market trends.
• Be sensitive to the needs of economically/socially disadvantaged populations.
• Understand how to handle and process confidential information such as PII/HIPAA related information.
• Be client‑centred by providing excellent customer service.
• Collaborate with multiple employment teams.
• Follow policies and procedures.
• Facilitate employment‑related workshops.
• Motivate others and work as a team member.
• Have strong interpersonal skills.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Be highly organised, flexible, and work independently.

• Use various computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and other programmes as needed.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Class C California driver licence or equivalent.
• Education and experience that provide the required knowledge and skills, such as two years of community‑service experience for socially and economically disadvantaged populations.

Limited‑term assignment (not to exceed three years). Employees receive medical and dental benefits similar to regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan.
