Job Summary:

Managers in Software Engineering are responsible for overseeing application development deliverables, including unit design, coding, and testing. They work closely with technical leads and project managers to define and clarify requirements, create solution approaches based on business needs, and provide recommendations on scope and effort. The role involves agile application development utilizing open-source tools for continuous integration and delivery, and interfacing with cross-functional teams such as analysts, developers, QA engineers, product owners, and operations personnel.

Managers ensure development work adheres to Visa's methodologies and security requirements, and are responsible for creating documentation and maintaining relationships with global development teams. All roles require digital fluency, including the ability to work with emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) to support everyday work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee application development deliverables including unit design, coding, and testing.
• Collaborate with technical leads and project managers to define requirements and create solution approaches.
• Provide recommendations on scope and scale of development efforts.
• Lead agile application development using open-source tools for continuous integration and delivery.
• Interface with cross-functional project and product teams.
• Support development activities including system design, integration testing, database modeling, software configuration, source code control, defect resolution, implementation planning, and deployment change management.
• Ensure adherence to Visa Development Management Methodology, Technical Security Requirements, and Secure Software Development Lifecycle.
• Create software and procedure documentation as required.
• Build and maintain working relationships with global development teams and engineers.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
• 2+ years of experience directly managing software engineering teams, including coaching, performance management, career development, hiring, and team growth

Preferred Qualifications:

• 6+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.
• People Management: 2+ years of experience directly managing software engineering teams, including coaching, performance management, career development, hiring, and team growth.
• Delivery Leadership:
  Proven track record leading agile application development, system design, integration testing, release readiness, and production deployments across multiple stakeholders and dependencies.
• Architecture & Cloud:
  Experience leading mission-critical, large-scale production systems, with 3+ years building and operating cloud-native platforms on Google Cloud Platform.
• Application Development:
  Strong technical foundation in full-stack, n-tier application development using Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, microservices, and REST/gRPC APIs.
