Position: Adjunct Instructor (TEMPORARY) - Japanese

Overview

Foreign Language Department at Contra Costa Community College seeks a part-time Adjunct Faculty instructor to teach Japanese courses. Assignment temporary, beginning January 2027, for five months.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines, and class schedules.

Create and maintain an environment that emphasizes learning, encourages discussion of ideas, and promotes critical thinking.

Evaluate students’ progress, teach grading of student work, and maintain academic records.

Hold meetings with students outside of class.

Maintain professional conduct and ethics standards.

Stay current with subject matter knowledge.

Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Master’s in Japanese, or Bachelor’s in Japanese plus Master’s in another language or Linguistics, or an equivalent.
Experience teaching transfer‑level first and second semester Japanese courses in face‑to‑face, online synchronous/asynchronous, or hybrid modalities.
Skill in engaging and inclusive education, culturally responsive curriculum.
Understanding of diverse student backgrounds.

Qualifications:

Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, passion for teaching, effective communication with students.

Benefits

Salary $77.87–$128.97 per hour (up to $151.16).
