About the PositionThe Sheriff's Service Assistant is a non-sworn position which may be assigned custodial (jail), administrative or court duties. The current vacancy exists within the Detention Services Bureau where this position accepts bail, receives money for inmates, issues receipts, files and maintains inmate records in the custody management system, and operates controls to allow jail personnel to move through the jail safely.
There is currently one (1) full-time Sheriff’s Service Assistant vacancy in the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
About YouOur Highly Qualified Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong customer service skills, has experience in a public safety setting, can handle a variety of administrative tasks in a fast-paced environment, and is willing to work varied schedules including nights, weekends and holidays. The ideal candidate has rapid and accurate data entry skills, and a strong grasp of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
The candidate should be able to learn new software related to criminal records checks, law enforcement databases, and Live Scan fingerprint systems. The candidate communicates clearly and effectively by phone and in person with individuals of various ages and backgrounds.
Knowledge of:
- Standard office administrative practices and procedures including computer applications and software related to the work of the department.
- Business mathematics and financial record keeping and report production.
Ability to:
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions; make decisions in routine procedural matters.
- Exercise good judgment within established policies and procedures.
- Enter data into and operate a computer terminal.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Work in a controlled security environment; interact with irate individuals; recognize inappropriate behavior.
- Maintain confidential information.
- Obtain, record, and provide accurate information by telephone or in person.
- Work under stress and in emergency situations.
- Receive and distribute cash, issue receipts and balance accounts.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered during performance of duties.
One (1) year of experience in a customer service, public contact or office support role. Education and/or training in a field related to the position may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
