The Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Department assesses value of taxable property; records and maintains documents for property ownership, births, deaths, and marriages; performs civil ceremonies; and processes marriage licenses, fictitious business names and other legal documents. Our department provides a great opportunity to pursue work that balances interaction with the public alongside problem-solving and highly detailed regulatory work.

The Marin County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk’s office is seeking one Assessment-Recorder-County Clerk Technician I/II (ARCCT I/II) to join our dedicated team and serve our community with professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail.

Flex Recruitment: There is currently one (1) Full-Time, three (3) Year Fixed Term ARCCT I/II vacancy in the Recorder Division. Candidates will be considered for the level that they meet minimum qualifications. Applicants who meet the requirements for this position may be considered for future vacancies (regular, fixed term, full-time, part-time, contingent) in the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Department while this list remains active.

  • At the entry level (ARCCT I), incumbents work under supervision and with guidance to provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders in person, by telephone, and through email. They review legal documents for completeness and compliance with applicable laws, and perform a variety of office support functions, including scanning, indexing, and related clerical tasks.
  • At the journey level (ARCCT II), incumbents work with greater independence and reduced supervision, exercising initiative and sound judgment in completing assignments. They routinely make decisions and determinations on more complex transactions and issues. Incumbents at both levels are expected to fully understand, interpret, explain, and apply established policies, procedures, and legal requirements in the performance of their duties.

The ARCCT I/II in the Recorder Division is a customer-focused professional who thrives in a fast-paced, public-facing environment. This position plays a vital role in assisting members of the public in person, by phone, and through email by providing copies of official records and issuing vital records including birth, public marriage, and death certificates. The successful candidate will confidently explain processes and collect and account for fees collected, including balancing a daily cash drawer and electronic payment collections.

This position also plays an important role in locating, maintaining and preserving official land and vital records, some dating back to California statehood.
