Job Description
Our client is seeking an Accountant for a contract opportunity. The job of Accountant is performed to analyze financial information, audit financial documents and transactions, compile statistical and financial data, monitor expenditures against budget, prepare and process accounting activities, prepare and submit documents and reports, provide technical expertise to staff and districts, reconcile fiscal information and account balances, and guide and train department staff.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Analyze financial information (e.g. general ledger accounts, costs, local tax revenues, district audits) to identify potential budget variances, compile statistical information, develop procedures, and conform to established financial practices and regulatory requirements.
- Audit financial documents and transactions to ensure accuracy, detect errors and fraud, process correcting entries, and comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with internal and external individuals and groups (e.g., personnel, auditors, funding agencies, IRS, California Department of Education) to implement and maintain services and programs in accordance with established financial policies, practices, laws and/or regulatory guidelines.
- Compile statistical and financial data (e.g., income/expenditure reports, forecasting, budget overviews) to provide third‑party reporting, develop budget recommendations, provide financial summaries to other personnel, and ensure compliance with established guidelines.
- Guide, present to, and train department staff to monitor workflow and ensure proper accounting practices and compliance with the fund account and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Monitor expenditures against budget and account information to ensure accuracy of reported information, fund availability, and compliance with established financial guidelines and program policies, practices and regulatory requirements.
- Plan and conduct team/department meetings, in‑service trainings, and workshops to promote best practices.
- Prepare and process a variety of accounting activities (e.g., accounting projects and annual reports, accounts receivable/payable transactions, payroll/benefits/taxes) to facilitate audit processes, maintain financial integrity and transparency, ensure financial accuracy, and meet legal and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical expertise to staff and districts on accounting issues and related financial activities to convey pertinent information regarding the organization’s financial operations and ensure compliance with established policies, practices and regulatory requirements.
- Receive and post various revenues (e.g., ACH, wires, checks, cash) to ensure proper revenue classification and accurate posting to funds and the internal financial system.
- Reconcile fiscal information and account balances (e.g., general ledger accounts, discrepancies, cash flow statements) to verify accuracy, maintain accurate balances, and comply with accounting practices.
- Respond to a variety of internal and external inquiries (e.g., account entries, regulations, tax communication) to provide information, direction and appropriate referrals.
- 3+ years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting or auditing.
- Must hold a valid California driver license and proof of insurance when driving is an assigned job duty.
