Position SummaryReporting to the Director of Power Systems and Analytics, the Power Resources Analyst oversees the interaction of systems, data, and processes across energy contracting, trading, forecasting, scheduling, operations, and settlements. Responsibilities include project management, report generation, data review, and data visualization; the analyst may also assist with regulatory compliance reporting, ensuring data infrastructure meets regulatory standards. The role requires strong communication skills and collaboration with technical teams, external consultants, government representatives, and regulatory bodies to implement effective workflows.
Key Responsibilities Map and Improve the Operational Data Ecosystem- Document how systems, data, and processes interact across contracting, trading, forecasting, scheduling, operations, and settlements.
- Inventory key platforms and map how data flows between them.
- Create unified diagrams showing systems, data lineage, and workflow dependencies.
- Identify data quality issues, manual steps, spreadsheet‑based logic, and workflow bottlenecks.
- Support the design of future‑state data models, standardized definitions, and improved data flows that reduce manual work and enable automation.
- Assist in redesigning operational workflows and validating new data pipelines, integrations, and processes.
- Build dashboards and reports that support market operations, forecasting, asset performance, settlements, and operational KPIs.
- Prepare clean, structured datasets for analytics, including feature engineering for forecasting, anomaly detection, and optimization models.
- Translate business questions into analytical requirements and ensure the data environment supports those needs.
- Support the development of forecasting and performance monitoring datasets (e.g., load/renewable forecasts, curtailment analysis, settlement variance).
- Implement data validation checks, quality monitoring, and automated reporting pipelines.
- Explore opportunities to apply AI/ML tools, under guidance from senior analysts, to improve forecasting accuracy, detect anomalies in market data, and identify operational inefficiencies.
- Summarize insights, create clear visualizations, and present findings to stakeholders across operations, trading, forecasting, and settlements.
- Ensure analytics outputs are reproducible, well documented, and aligned with governance standards.
Both levels require a strong understanding of data modeling fundamentals (star schemas, fact/dimension tables, grain, normalization).
Education & ExperiencePower Resources Analyst
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, or a closely related field. - Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of direct analyst‑level experience performing similar work or an equivalent combination of education or experience working for an electric utility, energy technology company, community choice aggregation program, or in a closely related field. A master’s degree may substitute for up to 2 years of required experience.
Senior Power Resources Analyst
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, or a closely related field. - Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience working for an electric utility, energy technology company, community choice aggregation program, or in a closely related field. A master’s degree may substitute for up to 2 years of required experience.
- Understanding and familiarity of SQL and Python.
- Strong documentation skills (process maps, system diagrams, data flow charts) and ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
