Summary

The Cardiology RN collaborates in a team environment to coordinate patient care in the Cardiology Clinic for multiple areas (Cardiology Clinic, EP/Afib Clinic and Testing Center). This includes nursing assessment, problem identification, planning, reporting of complex clinical data to the appropriate EP/Cardiologist and implementation of the patient plan of care as directed by the provider.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    BSN degree highly preferred
  • Experience:

    Minimum of two-year cardiovascular clinic experience and/or hospital nursing experience. Two years in a critical care or cardiac inpatient unit preferred. Two years experience with telemetry monitoring preferred.
  • Licensure:
    Current Registered Nurse California license. Maintains BLS and ACLS certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provides pre-, post-op education for Cardiology and EP procedures.
  • Educates patients about their cardiovascular condition and explains treatment options as directed by the cardiologist or electrophysiologist.
  • Teaches patients how to prevent worsening of cardiovascular conditions, the importance of self-monitoring, and provides appropriate resources.
  • Triages patients' physical symptoms/arrhythmias appropriately and consults with cardiologists or electrophysiologists per protocol.
  • Supports RN Testing Center and Cardiac PET CT Imaging procedures when needed.
  • Participates in Transition of Care Management to ensure discharge medications and instructions are understood by patient and/or family.
  • Updates medication and problem list in the Electronic Health Record and ensures follow-up with cardiologists.
  • Reviews daily lab/test results, physician tasks and clinical worklist(s) as assigned.
  • Assists the Nurse Supervisor and/or Director on matters relating to nursing practices and participates in development of policies and protocols for patient care.
  • Initiates and maintains personal professional development as required for continuing education.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA.
