Position Summary

The golf course mechanic reports to the golf course superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program, including repair of failing equipment, record keeping of parts and labor, and ordering of supplies. The mechanic communicates maintenance needs to the superintendent and prioritizes safety, maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.

Job Duties
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in diesel, electric, and gasoline-powered vehicles, trucks, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Repair and adjust cutting mechanisms on heavy and light mowing equipment.
  • Set up and modify new equipment as needed.
  • Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work.
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance program for all equipment within budget.
  • Perform emergency repairs on equipment on the course during frequent spot checks.
  • Oversee the shop maintenance area.
  • Diagnose and correct mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems, performing related repairs as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • 3 or more years of experience as a golf course mechanic.
  • Certificate in mechanics, small engine repair, or other mechanical certifications preferred.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and multi-task.
  • Operate a variety of automotive repair tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems of small and heavy golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of operation and repair of gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Knowledge of manual transmissions, drive trains, brakes, suspensions, and steering in all golf course equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic operations/repairs related to pumps, controls, and transmission devices.
  • Knowledge of electricity and related components in vehicles and machinery.
