About The Position

Under the direction of the Homelessness & Coordinated Care (HCC) Unit Supervisor, the Senior Social Service Worker provides advanced social casework services and serves as a lead resource in coordinating outreach, engagement, and housing-focused services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. This position plays a critical role in supporting multidisciplinary responses at identified encampments throughout Marin County, including Binford Road and Hamilton Marsh, by helping clients overcome barriers to housing stability and connecting them with appropriate services and supports.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing advanced case management services to individuals experiencing complex housing, health, behavioral health, financial, and social service needs.
  • Coordinating with HHS programs, County departments, community-based organizations, and individuals with lived experience to develop and implement effective service plans and improve client outcomes.
  • Serving as a lead resource and providing consultation, mentoring, and support to staff working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Connecting clients to HCC programs and community resources, including Coordinated Entry, Behavioral Health Bridge Housing, CalAIM Housing-Related Community Supports, and other supportive services.
  • Identifying barriers to housing stability and collaborating with clients and service providers to develop strategies that support successful transitions to permanent housing.
  • Participating in the development, implementation, and improvement of homelessness services, procedures, and initiatives.

The Senior Social Service Worker will be joining a collaborative team committed to advancing innovative, client-centered approaches that promote housing stability and improve outcomes for Marin County residents experiencing homelessness.

About You

OUR HIGHLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATE Our highly qualified candidate has significant experience providing social services to individuals experiencing homelessness or other complex social and health-related challenges. They have demonstrated expertise in trauma-informed care, Housing First approaches, crisis intervention, and developing effective service plans for individuals with complex needs. The ideal candidate is a skilled social worker who can build trust with clients, navigate challenging situations, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and community partners.

They bring strong judgment, compassion, and problem-solving skills to address barriers to housing stability and connect individuals to meaningful resources and supports. The highly qualified candidate has experience serving as a lead resource or mentor to colleagues, providing consultation and guidance on complex cases, and supporting continuous improvement efforts. They are organized, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities while working effectively in a dynamic environment.

The ideal candidate is also an excellent communicator who can clearly convey complex information to diverse audiences, build collaborative partnerships, and represent HHS with professionalism and respect.

QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:

  • Principles and techniques of interviewing.
  • Community organizations and resources and the social problems calling for the use of public and private resources.
  • Basic principles of public assistance agencies, policies and programs.
  • Laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of a social service agency and related specialized programs.

Ability to:

  • Provide lead direction, mentoring, and training to assigned staff.
  • Analyze client situations and social services needs.
  • Develop, prepare and implement effective case work plans.
  • Apply applicable laws, rules, and regulations to social service operations.
  • Interpret social service programs to applicants, recipients and others.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate excellent judgment, diplomacy, and accuracy in representing the Unit to County and community-based partners.
  • Prepare clear, concise and accurate case records, reports, correspondence and other written materials.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Either possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work or a Master's degree in a two year counseling program by the time of appointment and two years of experience in adult social services as described or possession of a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with coursework related to the field and three years of journey level casework experience of which two years were directly related to the assignment at a level comparable to the County's classes of Social Service Worker II or Deputy Public Guardian.
