Withum’s Exempt Organization and Employee Benefits Tax group provides support and guidance to benefit plans and other exempt organizations, helping them navigate a technology‑driven environment of ever‑changing rules and regulations.
This group services a wide range of clients, including health and welfare plans, defined benefit and defined contribution plans, and nonprofits such as community‑based organizations, public charities, private foundations, trade associations and educational institutions.
Responsibilities- Review annual employee benefit tax returns and unrelated business income tax returns for a diverse client base.
- Review state income tax returns and annual state charitable registration forms.
- Research and resolve tax‑exempt organization tax issues.
- Review Employee Benefit Plan Forms 5500 and exempt organization returns (Form 990, 990‑PF, 990‑T) as well as C Corp., S Corp., partnership income, fiduciary tax returns and individual returns as time permits.
- Identify and implement tax‑planning opportunities.
- Manage multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to meet client deadlines efficiently.
- Conduct constructive discussions with team members on their evaluations and provide counsel.
- Serve in professional development programs as an instructor or discussion leader.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA license, JD, or a Master of Science in Taxation.
- At least 5 years of prior experience in a public accounting tax department.
- Experience leading multiple engagements and supervising staff.
- Excellent analytical and technical tax skills.
- Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast‑paced, results‑based team environment.
- Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
- Strong organizational, project‑management skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Base salary ranges:
San Ramon $95,000‑$155,000 annually;
Columbia $95,000‑$155,000 annually. Additional benefits include a competitive benefits package and a bonus program based on individual and firm performance. Final offers consider the specific role, hiring location, and the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
