Job Overview
Senior Process Engineer – a senior-level role focused on process system engineering and design across pharmaceutical, biologics, and medical device manufacturing. The position supports capital projects, greenfield construction, and process optimization for leading life‑science companies.
Responsibilities- Design process mechanical systems as part of multidisciplinary project teams in an A&E environment.
- Execute process system engineering from conceptual/planning through final detail design for system enhancements, unit‑operation optimization, and new construction.
- Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), perform energy and mass balances, conduct cycle‑time and bottleneck analyses, size equipment, and define utility requirements.
- Produce construction documents including piping & instrument diagrams (P&IDs), equipment general‑arrangement drawings, pipe plans, isometric drawings, operator access platforms, line lists, tie‑in lists, installation specifications, bills of material (BOM), scopes of work, and other required deliverables.
- Interface with OEMs and vendors to finalize equipment sizing and selection, directing CAD designers and facilitating design coordination with controls/automation, utilities, and building systems.
- Provide on‑site support during system testing, start‑up, commissioning, and qualification activities.
- Assist in developing project scopes and preparing proposals for engineering/design services and constructed solutions.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations.
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in pharmaceutical and biologics process system engineering/design.
- Design experience with CIP/SIP, support equipment (washers, autoclaves, lyophilizers), and high‑purity water systems (WFI, RODI).
- Proficiency in process definition methods, unit‑operation identification, FDA/EMA regulatory standards, and process control instrumentation.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills for interaction with team members and clients.
- Computer skills:
AutoCAD (basic), Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project (basic); familiarity with 3‑D modeling, hydraulic analysis, and process simulation software is a plus. - Willingness to travel for project requirements such as installation, start‑up, client meetings, training, and industry events.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Biochemical Engineering preferred; other engineering degrees considered based on experience.
Estimated $120,000–$160,000. Final compensation may vary by background, skills, and geographic location.
