Assistant Colorist, Hair Color Bar
The Assistant Colorist at Madison Reed Hair Color Bar supports Licensed Colorists and the Shift Lead to deliver a seamless guest experience from arrival to departure. In this role, you will learn a range of services—including consultations, hair care products, shampooing, conditioning, blowout services, and the unlimited roots membership program—while building relationships with guests and teammates. The Assistant Colorist is in training for promotion to Licensed Colorist in 3–9 months.
The role reports to the Manager, can be full‑time or part‑time, and requires availability during peak business hours.
Compensation: Base hourly pay of $28–$30, plus commissions and tips. Actual earnings depend on performance, tenure, and time behind the chair.
Responsibilities:- Provide a guest experience aligned with Madison Reed values (Love, Joy, Trust, Courage, Responsibility).
- Assist with behind‑chair services such as shampooing, conditioning, styling, blowouts, hot‑tool styling, and toner services, and apply add‑on products per guest request.
- Contribute to monthly sales goals and other key performance indicators—including retail sales, services, and memberships.
- Maintain cleanliness, merchandising, inventory, and asset security according to company standards.
- Follow Madison Reed systems, policies, and procedures.
- Drive revenue by increasing the average service ticket through additional services, unlimited roots memberships, subscriptions, and home hair care products.
- Show a proactive willingness to learn and complete the Assistant Colorist to Colorist Training, mastering color theory and behind‑chair application skills.
Physical Demands: Stand and walk for at least four consecutive hours; repeat bending, twisting, and reaching; manipulate fingers and hands when moving up to ten pounds. Occasionally sit, kneel, crouch, push, pull, or lift up to ten pounds. Regular communication with guests through ongoing conversations and consultations is required.
Qualifications:- Active cosmetology license in the state where applying.
- Entry‑level experience in customer service, retail sales, or salon/beauty industry preferred.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and people skills in a fast‑paced environment.
- Comfortable operating point‑of‑sale systems.
- Fluency in English.
