School Year

Position: Sand Springs Public Schools Substitute Daycare Teacher

Location: Early Childhood Center

Address : 1701 E Park Rd, Sand Springs, OK 74063

Status: Nonexempt

Hours: As needed for coverage assistance / will follow SSPS academic calendar for days on and off work

Supervisor: Site Principal Lisa Banks and Director of Early Learning Center Chelesa Taylor

Reports to: Director of Sand Springs Public Schools Early Learning Center and ECEC Building Principal

Qualifications for a Substitute Teacher: Must be at least 18 years old and have an HS diploma or GED or be in the process of receiving a GED for a period not to exceed 12 months, pass a yearly National Criminal Background Check, and meet all other requirements set by the Department of Human Services, in accordance with the position.

Teacher:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Have at least a high school diploma, GED, or licensing-approved equivalent; or completed 10th grade and are in the process of obtaining a GED for a period not to exceed 12 months from employment

Position-specific responsibilities.

  • Direct care of children
  • Lesson plan development and implementation
  • Classroom arrangement
  • Parent communication and family engagement
  • Program development and evaluation

Teachers must obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification requirements, per OAC
340:110-3-284. Teachers assuming the position:

  • On or after November 1, 2016, get the certification within three months
  • Before November 1, 2016, and obtain the certificate before November 1, 2017
  • (Will compensate for certifications)

Job Goal: Providing care and supervision for infants through preschool children throughout the day.

Following the laws and guidelines by DHS Regulations for a licensed daycare facility.

Classification: Nonexempt

Evaluation: Annually by Supervising Teacher/Director and Site Principal

Physical Demands:

Regular Requirements:

  • Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally
  • Repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students
  • Lift/move up to 75 pounds

Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 75 pounds

Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Note - these duties vary based on individual student needs and individualized education plans.

Typical duties may include:

  • Accompanies students during meals and assists students with getting and eating meals and cleaning up after meals.
  • Cleans and maintains an efficient work area.
  • Assists with instruction, errands, and copies related to an assigned student(s).
  • Alerts the Director of concerns related to the student.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local laws, board policies, and procedures.
  • Utilizes professional behavior in all school-related interactions.
  • Assists the Director in monitoring students' progress.
  • Assists the Director in observing, recording, and charting behavior.
  • Assists the Director with crisis problems and behavior management.
  • Supervises children in the hallway, lunchroom, classroom, and playground.
  • Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline.
  • Responsible for assisting the Master Teacher with the full implementation of policies and procedures, regulations, and guidelines in the day-to-day operations.
  • Assist the Director in reviewing each child's progress and developing written plans to promote each child's growth and development.
