Position Title:
Mathematics Teacher

Location:
Sand Springs Public Schools

Reports to: Principal and/or other Supervisor (Dakota Nealy, Principal)

Status: Exempt

Qualifications: Must hold proper state certification for Middle School Mathematics (Intermediate)/OSBI and possess a background check. Must hold a bachelor’s in education or a related field. Oklahoma Teaching Certification in listed subjects or Alternative Teaching Certification. Secondary Mathematics. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community, work cooperatively and demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, and follow state and district guidelines.

Position

Summary

Create a flexible program and a classroom environment conducive to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for a solid educational foundation tailored to each pupil’s ability; establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Essential Duties
  • Teach mathematics to pupils in a classroom using the course of study adopted by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and Sand Springs Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and essential subject matter specified by the school district’s state law and administrative regulations.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to pupil needs with identified objectives.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
  • Utilize grading patterns that are fairly administered and based on identified criteria.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere; treat pupils with respect and dignity.
  • Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils’ progress and interpret the school program.
  • Interact with pupils, staff, and parents positively and professionally.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and solving health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Supervise and monitor students during out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day, which may include cafeteria duty, field trips, playground duty, hallway monitoring, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required)
  • University degree in education or a related field.
  • Oklahoma Teaching Certification in listed subjects or Alternative Teaching Certification approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
  • Secondary Mathematics certification.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively, demonstrate self‑disability and initiative, and follow state and district guidelines.
Physical Demands

Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students.

Occasional Requirements

Lift/move up to 25 pounds; ability to administer CPR.

Visual Requirements

Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

Hearing/Speaking Requirements

Adequate to exchange information.
