Special Education Paraprofessional – Garfield Steam Academy 2026‑2027
Starting Date: Aug 17, 2026
Location: Garfield Steam Academy
Job DescriptionPosition for the 2026‑2027 School Year.
Qualifications- 48 hours of college credit OR passing score on the Paraprofessional Test.
- High school diploma or equivalent; or General Educational Development (GED) diploma plus one of the following:
- Option A:
Associate’s degree (or higher). - Option B:
At least two years (48 credit hours) of study at a higher‑education institution. - Option C:
Pass the Oklahoma General Education (OGET) Test. - Option D:
Pass the Praxis Para‑Professional Assessment Test (score 455). - Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, Tiered Certification, National Criminal History Check via OSDE/OSBI.
- Oklahoma Criminal Background Check.
- Application for Oklahoma Title I Paraprofessional Credential; $10 processing fee payable to Oklahoma State Department of Education.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Provide adult support to small groups or one‑on‑one with students, assisting them in unique educational goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with instruction, errands, and copying for assigned students.
- Maintain and clean work area.
- Attend IEP and other meetings and training as requested.
- Alert assigned teacher to concerns related to students.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws; board policies and procedures.
- Exhibit professional behavior in all school interactions.
- Monitor students’ progress toward academic and behavioral IEP goals.
- Reinforce learning in small groups or with individual students while teacher works with others.
- Observe, record, and chart behavior.
- Assist with crisis and behavior management.
- Provide one‑on‑one tutoring when scheduled.
- Score objective tests and papers; maintain records.
- Carry out instructional programs designed by teacher.
- Work with teacher to develop classroom schedules.
- Operate and maintain classroom equipment.
- Supervise children in hallway, lunchroom, and playground.
- Perform additional tasks as supervisor may assign.
- Accompany students to cafeteria; assist with meals; clean up.
- Accompany students to classes or therapy; monitor behavior; assist with classwork.
- Assist students with motor, balance, social, and life skills.
- Assist with personal care: dressing, toileting, diapering.
