Contract

7 hrs. daily, and CTE stipend

Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Assigned Subject(s) (Mathematics for High School) / OSBI background check

CTE Statement

This position comes with an additional stipend from Oklahoma Career Tech. Candidates must complete all requirements of Oklahoma Career Tech in addition to their other duties. This includes being an active participant in the student organization associated with their Career Tech program.

Position Summary

Sand Springs Public Schools invites a dedicated Aviation Instructor to lead our aviation program for students in grades 9-12. This role serves as the foundation for a comprehensive STEM pathway, utilizing the AOPA curriculum to explore manned and unmanned aircraft operations. Beyond classroom instruction, the successful candidate will be a community builder, responsible for recruiting industry mentors and fostering strong, collaborative relationships with parents and school staff.

We are seeking a dynamic educator with deep aeronautical knowledge who is committed to student success and capable of creating an engaging, real-world learning environment from the ground up.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver an engaging and effective aviation curriculum aligned with the AOPA program for grades 9-12.
  • Utilize the instructional strategies provided in the Choose Aerospace curriculum for 11th and 12th-grade students.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, laboratory experiments, and technology, to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Incorporate STEM principles and interdisciplinary connections into aviation lessons, emphasizing the science and mathematics underlying aviation concepts.
  • Provide instruction in areas such as the basics of flight, human factors in aviation safety, airport operations and management, navigational systems, and aircraft mechanical systems.
  • Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, including simulations, model building, and flying drones.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise student field trips to aviation-related facilities and events.
  • Assess student learning through various methods, including projects, presentations, tests, and practical demonstrations.
  • Maintain accurate student records and communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration regarding student progress.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate aviation concepts across the curriculum and promote STEM education within the school.
  • Attend required summer professional development to become proficient in the AOPA aviation curriculum.
  • Stay current with advancements in the aviation industry and incorporate relevant information into instruction.
  • Ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
  • Adhere to all school policies and procedures.
  • Participate in school-wide activities and professional development opportunities.
Physical Demands

Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students.

Occasional Requirements

Lift/move up to 25 pounds; ability to administer CPR.

Visual Requirements

Close color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Hearing/Speaking Requirements

Adequate to exchange information.
