Garfield Steam Academy, 701 North Roosevelt, Sand Springs, Oklahoma 74063

Supervisor

Site Principal: Russell Ragland

Contract

180 days, 7 hours daily.

Qualifications
  • Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Assigned Subject(s).
  • Elementary Certification.
  • Pass an OSBI Background Check.
Evaluation

Annually, according to Oklahoma Law (TLE).

Status

Exempt.

Summary of Function

Demonstrate the competencies and behaviors needed to improve student preparedness, mastery of skills and grade‑level curriculum, and support the core values, vision, and mission of Sand Springs Public Schools.

General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate mastery of related subject matter, instructional skills, and resource materials for the course(s) taught.
  • Create lesson plans aligned with current state and district standards, driven through formative assessment and differentiation.
  • Maintain a safe, organized classroom that supports students’ independent learning, collaboration, and choice.
  • Utilize a variety of effective instructional and management techniques.
  • Provide a variety of assessments and use assessments for planning and instruction.
  • Provide consistent, immediate feedback to student learning and ask analytical questions that elicit responses incorporating prior knowledge, life experience, and interests directly related to the content objective.
  • Monitor and maintain a positive classroom environment that supports the school‑wide behavior expectation, engaging most students, incorporating mutual respect, and providing collaborative learning opportunities.
  • Use available technology/instructional media to enhance students’ learning experiences.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members by communicating tactfully, courteously, and confidentially.
  • Appropriately communicate and interact with other professional staff in academic planning and school committee work.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, extra‑curricular/school‑related activities, and committees.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth and work with the administrator to formulate and complete professional development plans.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate conscientious and responsible behavior.
  • Engage parents and guardians in the education of their children.
  • Do not engage in discriminatory practices, including race, origin, gender, socioeconomic status, disability, religion, or political beliefs.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned by the site administrator.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge and application of Sand Springs Public Schools District and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and application of appropriate teaching strategies and methods.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co‑workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with the school district.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications and equipment.
Other Requirements
  • Specialized teaching assignments may require additional training and/or certification.
  • Must pass an initial fingerprint and background clearance check and maintain a valid fingerprint clearance card in the classroom.
  • May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • May be required to work outside regular working hours.
  • May be required to travel to perform work functions.
Certification

Applicants must be appropriately certified and highly qualified. Successful candidates must hold a current teaching certificate issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. They must meet the following criteria:
Early Childhood Education Oklahoma Teaching Certificate.
