Position: Special Education Teacher (Severe to Profound)

Location: Charles Page High School, 500 North Adams Road, Sand Springs, OK 74063

Supervisor: Site Principal, Ryan Bivin

Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Special Services

Supervises: Assigned Paraprofessionals, Students

Evaluation: Annually by Site Principal

Classification: Exempt

Qualifications: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Assigned Subject(s); K-12 Special Education, severe to profound; applicant must pass an OSBI background check.

Job Goal: Provide exceptional instruction to assigned students while working within the district's established policies and procedures.

Personal Qualifications
  • Must possess knowledge in all areas of responsibility, law, and local policy.
  • Must be computer literate with the ability to send/receive email with attachments, produce memos, navigate the internet, and accurately complete & submit forms or reports as needed.
  • Must read and comprehend written instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Must be attentive to details, a self-starting, able to work effectively without constant supervision, and able to multitask.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills.
General Duties / Responsibilities
  • Teach academic and functional skills to students with disabilities.
  • Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities using various instructional techniques and technologies.
  • Follow all Board of Education, State Department of Education, and District Policies.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the SDE, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Assess students’ accomplishments regularly by testing, recording grades, and providing progress reports to parents and professionals as directed by the district.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline per Board policies, the student handbook, and administrative regulations.
  • Take reasonable caution to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional material as needed.
  • Supervise proper usage of teaching supplies, classroom equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings, required professional development, and other meetings required by campus or district administration.
  • Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality per district policy and campus expectations.
  • Sponsor and accept responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned or approved by the campus or district administration.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, and parents; strictly follow the Code of Ethics for Oklahoma Educators.
  • Cooperate with staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Work to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Accept and respond appropriately to supervision.
  • Provide lesson plans as expected by campus administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
  • Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop individual educational plans to promote students’ educational, physical, and social development.
